Transaction Types
Analyze Portfolio supports four types of transactions:
- Buy: Record a purchase of shares
- Sell: Record a sale of shares
- Dividend: Record dividend income received
- Split: Record a stock split event
Adding a Transaction
Navigate to a portfolio and click "Transactions" (the history icon). Then click "Add Transaction" and fill in:
- Position: Select which holding the transaction applies to
- Type: Buy, Sell, Dividend, or Split
- Quantity: Number of shares for a Buy or Sell. For a Split this is the ratio, not a share count: enter 4 for a 4-for-1 split, or 0.5 for a 1-for-2 reverse split. For a Dividend, enter the number of shares held (with the per-share amount in Price).
- Price: Price per share at execution (per-share dividend amount for a Dividend; leave as 0 for a Split)
- Fee: Any brokerage or commission fees
- Date: When the transaction occurred
Filtering Transactions
Use the filter controls at the top of the transaction list to narrow by:
- Type: Show only buys, sells, dividends, or splits
- Symbol: Filter by a specific ticker
Why Record Transactions?
While positions track your current holdings, transactions provide a detailed audit trail. They feed into performance analytics, realized gain/loss calculations, and help you understand your investment history over time.
