Performance Overview
The Performance tab shows how your holdings have done over time. Returns are time-weighted, so money you pay in or take out does not count as performance: adding £10,000 to a portfolio raises its value but not its return.
Key Metrics
- Price Return: the return from share prices alone, with dividends excluded on both your portfolio and the benchmark.
- Total Return: the same measure with dividend income included, counted at the shares you held on each ex-dividend date.
- vs Benchmark: the gap between your return and the benchmark's, shown in percentage points.
- Best and worst day: your largest single-day gain and loss over the period.
When these figures are estimated
A holding with no purchase date is assumed to have been held for the whole period shown. When any of your holdings is in that state, the Performance and Risk tabs are labelled Estimated / reconstructed history: the figures describe what your current holdings would have done, not what you actually earned. Adding purchase dates replaces this with tracked performance. You can add one from the holdings table.
Benchmark Comparison
Compare your portfolio against a market benchmark to see whether your choices did better or worse than the index over the same period. Both sides are measured on the same basis, so a dividend-inclusive return is never compared against a price-only one.
How to Access
Navigate to Portfolio Analytics, select a portfolio, and choose the "Performance" tab.
