FAQ

Data Providers and Live Prices

How Analyze Portfolio sources live market data from multiple providers with automatic fallback.

Multi-Provider Architecture

Analyze Portfolio combines multiple market data sources with automatic fallback so quotes stay available:

  • Free public market data feeds — the default source for US and international stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, and crypto. Prices are live during US market hours; some international and fallback feeds may be delayed.
  • Commercial providers — the platform can additionally be configured (at the system level) to use commercial data services such as Finnhub or Twelve Data for extra redundancy. These are not active by default.

How the Cascade Works

When you request a quote, the app tries the configured primary source first. If that fails (network error, rate limit, missing data), it falls back to alternative feeds automatically. This happens transparently: you always see the best available data, and quotes are cached briefly to keep pages fast.

Data Coverage

  • US Stocks — Full coverage (NYSE, NASDAQ, AMEX)
  • International Stocks — Major exchanges worldwide
  • ETFs — US and international ETFs
  • Crypto — Major cryptocurrencies (use symbols like BTC-USD)
  • Forex — Automatic FX rate conversion for multi-currency portfolios

Sparklines

Many views show small sparkline charts next to prices. These are based on recent intraday or historical data and give you a quick visual sense of the price trend.
